Prom. Part Two. The Reveal.

This past weekend, I was invited to attend a prom fashion show on behalf of The Everywhere Society. I do some work with them on occasion and this sounded like it could be a lot of fun! The show was hosted by Jamie Krell. She’s a frequent fashion contributor on news segments all over the country… Including The Today Show and E! There was a large crowd and cupcakes were served. I thought that was really cute. Macy’s even gave out $10 gift cards to attendees who tweeted about the event.

The trends were clear: high/low hemline (lovingly called the “mullet dress” on Twitter), the short dress with the long sheer overlay and *bling*!

In my previous post… I asked you what you might do differently if you could do prom all over again. You shared some really great memories with me. It’s time for me to share some with you. I made some unfortunate formal wear choices throughout high school. I feel as if I was always trying to look older. Or something? I have no idea. I’ve never been super fashionable. I was an athlete. I felt more comfortable in my basketball jersey than a formal dress.

photo(11)If I were going to do my prom days all over again… I’d live out my fantasy of wearing a formal gown while riding a motor scooter. I’d probably go to prom alone and enjoy the time with my friends rather than wonder where my date was. I’d take more pictures! And… I’d dress my age. I’d wear something fun and sparkly! I’d go BRIGHT!

photo(13)I’d love to hear more of your prom memories. What was yours like and what would you do differently?

Lululemon, Trampolines, and Sunshine

It was a gorgeous early evening last night in Phoenix. Rachel and Allison slipped on their “work out” clothes so they could get their exercise on the trampoline. Ever since I’ve been kickboxing nightly… they also want to slip on some yoga pants and get their sweat on. I think it’s great! Not only are they getting some fresh air and exercise… they are completely worn out and ready for bed early!

I took the opportunity to do an impromptu photo shoot. The pictures turned out really cute! (Did I mention I’ve picked up a new photography hobby in all of my spare time?) Here’s a sample of a typical evening on the trampoline at our house:

Don’t you just LOVE the thumb holes in the sleeve cuff to keep little hands warm? And the comfort of the fabrics… *sigh* I don’t blame them for wanting to live in yoga pants. I do. Practically. And not just any yoga pants. If you buy the cheap ones… they get all worn out with little rolled up balls of fabric between the inner thigh. Yeah… my thighs touch. What of it? And… they fade and look worn quickly. They don’t have that sheen that you can go out in public in.

BUT… Both Cassandra and I will swear by Lululemon’s yoga pants… for reals. Dress them up a bit for a casual golf course. Wear them grocery shopping or to the library. Slip some on for a Vegas road trip. Or… actually SWEAT in them! :)

And now… there’s Lululemon for our kids! A brand new pop-up store has appeared in Scottsdale and will be open through January! Lululemon has created ivivva athletica for girls 6-14 years old. My kiddos were given a set to romp around in. The question now is… how do I get them out of them?

Allison is 6 years old and wearing the pink ivivva hoodie. It’s a cozy cotton fleece with the clever thumb holes! And… it’s pre-shrunk! Yay! She’s also wearing the Tumblin’ Tank II. It’s made with a luon fabric that’s breathable because it has a special wicking. It also has lycra to keep its shape. At $35 I was a bit hesitant… but not after I’ve seen it in action. The straps stay up because of the racerback structure and it has flat seams that keep her from saying that it’s “itchy”. This is a tank that we all agree on! The pants are the Studio Bound Pant. These can go from a day out running errands with mom… straight to the gym for dance or tumbling class. They have a cotton-like feel and also contain the luon fabric for wicking and a flat seam!

Rachel is 8 and is wearing the Routine Jacket. This is a luon fabric jacket with what they call 4-way stretch. This allows it to move with her! (And she is a bouncy one!) The pockets zip and the sleeves have those awesome little thumb holes! Her tank matches perfectly. It’s the Activity Racer. The luon fabric gives a snug fit (even on her skinny self!) And the flat seams don’t irritate! Rachel’s pants follow the luon fabric theme. The Straight Up Pant II has a wide, smooth, waistband and straight leg. There’s even a hidden waistband pocket for an iPod or phone.

These are investment pieces that will last. Where can you get yours? At the new pop-up store in Scottsdale:

Back to School, Tillamook, and Feeding America

Let me start by saying… this isn’t a paid post. This is a post on doing social good. I received information about the Tillamook/Feeding America initiative and wanted to help out. We also received an adorable back pack! (You can win one too) So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…

It’s that time of year again! Back to school! And as a mom… I’m constantly trying to come up with quick and healthy school lunches. This year…. I’m giving bento boxes a shot. My kids have been in school for two weeks now and bento boxes have worked really well for us! What’s a bento box? Basically… it’s a lunchbox with dividers. One of the main staples in their lunches is… cheese!

Speaking of cheese… Tillamook, the authority on delicious all-natural cheese, is teaming up with Feeding America, the nations leading domestic hunger-relief charity. How can you get involved?

Starting today… Readers can visit the Tillamook Facebook page and visit the Back to School tab to submit a favorite recipe, snack, or tip! For every submission on the Back to School tab… Tillamook will donate $10 to Feeding America! Every submission also enters readers to win a Tillamook backpack full of back to school goodies and all-natural Tillamook treats!

Tillamook has also given us an exclusive %15off coupon code for their online store. Just use the code backtoschool, at check out, to receive your savings. Thanks Tillamook!

Back to School Deal Alert!

I’ve been going to JCPenney (now better known as the more hip… jcp) since I was 18. I was the receptionist at the store in the Paradise Valley Mall while I went to beauty school. That’s right! I was a beauty school drop out! Well… not really. I completed the nail technology program and was promoted from receptionist to nail technician in the salon.

I still go there. In fact… if you’re in the Phoenix area… you should be seeing Brian Sullivan for all of your hair needs. He’s been with me through blonde, brunette, and red… long, short, and in between. He’s even given me amazing hair extensions. But… I digress… we’re here to talk about an amazing Back to School Deal!

During the month of August… all 949 jcp locations will be giving FREE haircuts to kids! For reals. Just take your little ones in during the month of August and you’ll score a free back-to-school hair cut (K-6th)!  In addition… jcp will be donating $1 for every head of hair cut on August 1st. These donations go to support The Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4H.

Don’t need a hair cut? There’s an eye wear special at jcp too! You can get a complete pair of eyeglasses for $25 for kids ages 16 and under.

The focus of this campaign is for jcp to be a part of helping families and kids look and feel their best for the new school year. So be a part of the initiative and visit your local jcp salon for a kids haircut on August 1st to benefit The Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4H.

Did you know?

The BGCA officially began in 1906 and annually serves more than 4 million young people each year through membership and community outreach!

*Disclosure: I was given a nifty gift card to jcp for sharing this awesome deal with you. I’d share it anyway… who doesn’t love a good deal?
