Breaking the Ice… Daddy Style

Today is going to be one crazy day!! No seriously, let me tell you! I’ll be waking up at my usual 5’ish. Then I’ll be driving 80 miles to work (yeah, you heard that right), working 9 hours, driving back home, packing the car, and then driving another 400 miles with my wife, 2 babies, and our dog! We’re going on a very fast weekend trip to visit my wife’s family. They’re having a 40th birthday party for her brother and we can’t miss it!

Ummm…I just realized that you have no idea who I am or what I’m doing here. Maybe I should fill you in a little before I’m flying off on my tangent.

Hi! My name is Josh, otherwise known as @DadStreet on the Twitters. This is going to totally knock your socks off…Are you sitting down? Ready? Wait for it…Wait for it…I actually have my own blog and you know what it’s called? DadStreet!! I know! Crazy, right?? Well all the good names were taken and by the time I could think of a better name I was stuck with it. So there you go…

Let me first start off by saying I’m not a writer. This might come as a surprise but I’m just telling you so when you start thinking how bad I suck, you can’t say I didn’t tell you. What I mean is, I never grew up wanting to write. In fact, I hated English class and didn’t even read my first book until I got out of high school. I write how I feel. It’s really as simple as that. I don’t pull any punches, I’m very in touch with my emotions (I know I’m a guy…), and I’m extremely open about things.

I plan on sharing my time here with my good buddy Adam of DadaRocks. We make up half of the DadsTalking crew (www.DadsTalking.com and #DadsTalking on Twitter). Hopefully, we’ll be able to add some things from a Dads perspective and in return learn a lot about all of you!

So what’s my story and what can you expect from me? Well, I live in Monterey, California with my wife, my daughter O, my son Jake, and our dog Cody.

Note: O’s name is Olivia and ever since I started writing about her I’ve always just called her O.

I’m originally from the east coast (Baltimore, MD) and have been living in CA for about 10 years. I work full-time as does my wife (actually 4 days a week) and I’m completely and utterly in love with my children. O just turned 2 and a half and Jake will be 14 months old tomorrow.

Here’s just a few things you might see me write about:

The little things I see in my children, my struggles with disciplining them, four years of infertility treatments, my mother’s cancer, living in another country as a child, my thoughts on living away from family, being a good husband, reaching out to you for advice and support, what guys are thinking, Dads are the other half of the parenting equation, and many other topics.

I hope you’ll stick around for our posts and I can’t wait to share our experiences together. Thanks for having me…maybe I’m getting ahead of myself? I suppose you could be kicking me off of here by next week. Well assuming you don’t, I can’t wait until next time!
