So… I was tagged today by my friend Pauline @aspiringmama. She wrote a great post about it. Apparently she didn’t enjoy being tagged. I, on the other hand, am quite excited by the challenge. Don’t get me wrong… I despise chain letters and things of that nature… But I look at this as a writing cue… like… “It was a dark and stormy night…” (You like that mama?)
So let’s begin…
Ten Things That Make Me Happy:
1. An ice cold Diet Pepsi
There is nothing better than cracking open an ice cold Diet Pepsi in the morning. Even better than that… taking the first sip and finding it so cold that there are ice chips inside. I know it’s going to be a good day when there are ice chips in my Diet Pepsi.
2. A Good Friend
Not just any friend… but a good friend. The kind of friend you can tell about the time you spit food politely in a napkin at a fancy dinner party and they won’t judge you. The kind of friend you can wander around a hotel room in your skivvies while you get ready for an event and think nothing of it. The kind of friend that tells you honestly that they hate your new design, or that you look terrible in those jeans, or… well you get it.
Living in Arizona… we don’t see much rain. Whenever it does rain… I make sure to take that opportunity to go outside and play in it. I might go for a run. I might play tag with the girls. I might just stand on the porch and take in the beauty of it all… I love rain.
Yes… honesty makes me happy. You learn quickly in the world of blogs and brands and marketing that there aren’t a whole lot of honest people out there. You also learn that there are a bunch of people who don’t want to hear the truth. Here’s what I have to say about that… hiding behind an image will only last so long. Be yourself. I like you better that way.
5. The sound of my little girls giggling
This gets me every time. I confess… they learned it from me. If you know me at all… you know I love to laugh. And not just laugh… I giggle. So when we’re watching Charlotte’s Web and the cow makes a noise that can only be described as obscene (you know… she farts) and my little ones start giggling up a storm? I can’t help but join in and take in the moment… the joy on their faces… the sound of their giggles… Bliss.
6. Hershey Kisses
I’m a sucker for Hershey Kisses. Want me to do something? Tell me that there will be Kisses there. Want to say you’re sorry? A bag of Kisses will do the trick. How about saying you think I’m the most amazing person you know? You got it… Kisses say it all.
7. Blue Jeans
Weird… I know. Blue jeans make me happy. This classic piece of clothing is a staple in my wardrobe… all 8 pairs of them. I have the sexy jean… the dressy jean… the sloppy jean… the casual jean… the dark wash jean… the super long jean I can only wear with heels… the holey pair of jeans and of course… the comfy jeans. Don’t judge me.
8. Being barefoot
I’ve only met one other person that enjoys being barefoot as much as I do… Tiffany @SITSgirls. We are two peas in a pod I tell you. Anyway… I’ve been a barefoot girl my whole life. Don’t get me started on socks… I own a single pair for emergencies. The UPS man always laughs when I come out to get my packages. “Still not wearing any shoes?” he asks. “Nope.” I giggle and walk away. I think he finds it charming. In fact… I’m wearing blue jeans right now (the comfy ones) and no shoes.
9. My Blankie
I haven’t told this story yet… it’s actually difficult to talk about. I brought my blankie with me to Chicago last year for BlogHer. Yes… I’m 31 and I sleep with a blankie. In the rush of packing up… I left my blankie in the room. I noticed rather quickly that I had left it an returned to the hotel to retrieve it. Housekeeping had already been through the room and my torn and dirty little blankie was trash. I cried and cried. For reals. Now I’m sleeping with a quilt made of the same squares that my blankie was. Slowly it’s felt comfortable again. My blankie makes me happy. But I will never travel with it again.
10. Unicorns farting sparkly rainbows…
No happiness post would be complete if I didn’t mention unicorns farting sparkly rainbows. I’ve been told on several occasions that my outlook on life is all unicorns and rainbows. The farting part didn’t come until I met Pauline at Bloggy Boot Camp. She said that I was probably the only cheerful person she didn’t want to kill. I took that as a compliment. We’ve been buddies ever since. She suggested my business cards have a unicorn farting a rainbow on it. I’m still thinking that one over…
Now… I’m tagging my girls @BanteringBlonde, @ScrappinMichele, @KnitPurlGirl, @MultipleMoments, @ABusyMommy, @TheBudgeBunch, @KeepItClassyJen. You’re IT.
