Hair Mutilation… Mullet Style

I took a nap with Allison today. It’s something I often do. Sometimes she wakes up before me and will play in the playroom or watch tv… but not today. Today she decided to cut her own hair. Not only did she cut her own hair… she put the hair in the trash can and put the scissors right back in my sewing basket. It’s not as if I wasn’t going to notice that my adorable baby now had a mullet and a huge chunk missing from her bangs!

So we took an emergency trip to our neighborhood haircut establishment. I felt so bad for Alli… everyone was giggling and saying how cute it was… she was clearly embarrassed. However… I felt satisfied that she would never be cutting her own hair again. She’s now the proud owner of a pixie cut!

She still doesn’t look very happy… but by the end of the day… a lesson was learned and a cute little pixie fell asleep happy. xo

*Side note: I was reading thru my blog subscriptions and came across this post from yesterday on Sevi Designs… my very favorite design blog. Apparently her daughter got a little scissor happy yesterday too! I’m not alone! LOL!

Comparison Shopping for the Serious Shopper

I like to think I have a knack for shopping. I use coupons when applicable. I watch for sales. I even shop consignment on occasion. Recently, I discovered a way to compare shopping prices online.

Using a website to find shopping deals is one of the most efficient ways to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal on your favorite items. I am aware that it’s not Christmas and there isn’t really a gift giving holiday in sight… but it would be a sweet sentiment to get your loved one an iPod filled with love songs for Valentine’s Day!

I know that I’ve been dying to have a new refrigerator. I find myself scouring the Sunday ads just trying to see who might have the best deal. Since learning about online comparison shopping… finding shopping deals on appliances will be no problem at all!

At first glance, the whole process may seem daunting, but with a little practice, you’ll be a shopping pro in no time. Easy to navigate categories and searches make comparing prices a breeze.

In addition to comparing prices online… you can also read product reviews. Not only are you getting the best price, but you’re also getting the best product for the best price! Talk about one-stop shopping!

Although this was a sponsored post… I’ve formed my own opinions.

Disney, Diabetes, and Princesses?

Disneyland… just saying the name makes me smile. My mind reels in magical wonderment just thinking about that first breath of Disney air as I walk through the gates. If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you know what I mean. The scent of freshly popped popcorn and hot crispy churros fills your senses. A smile slowly spreads across your face as you head through the tunnel to Main Street…

My favorite feeling? Walking along the water past the Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion… a mix of cool breeze and moisture… a feeling of impending, yet harmless doom… and the aroma of that delicious clam chowder bread bowl.

My family was generously granted press passes in December for our annual holiday vacation. We weren’t sure we would be able to make it this year. Between a 6 month stint of unemployment, digging out of foreclosure, and Allison’s newly diagnosed Diabetes… it didn’t seem possible.

But… we go every year. I have been over 30 times myself. My children have been to Disneyland 4 times each at the tender ages of 4 and 5. Once a year since they were born…

Thank you Disneyland Resort Public Relations for giving me the opportunity to share this experience with my readers. Now… on with the story…

I knew that going on a trip to Disneyland with a newly diagnosed diabetic child might be a challenge… so we had a visit with the Endocrinologist the day before we left on our trip. I was instructed to give Allison one small 10 carb snack every hour to keep up with her little excitable self. I was also instructed to test her glucose if she was showing any signs of being low or extremely high.

I was a bit nervous about testing her glucose and delivering her insulin while on the go… but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I kept easy snacks on hand and plenty of water. Not to mention, the girls were fantastic passengers on our 5 hour car ride. Rachel made sure that Alli could find the Slim Jim’s easily and was comfy. I felt so proud of those little sisters!

Initially, I had this fantastic idea that I would bring my live MomTV show with me and I’d talk about the changes in costume at the holiday season. The thing is… the costumes don’t really change a whole lot during the holidays. It’s the park decor that changes. It’s amazing. No matter how many times I go… I manage to find something new I hadn’t seen before. Still… I wanted to do something that I could relate to my design oriented readers and viewers.

Michele, from Disneyland Resort Public Relations, suggested we check out the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and give the girls a princess transformation. What a fantastic idea! This would make for a great blog post! I would still end up doing my show… live… from my hotel room… with princess underwear clad girls jumping on the beds behind me… but I couldn’t wait!

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is in Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. I’ve never really noticed it before. Nestled away amongst some of our favorite rides… Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan, Snow White and Pinocchio… lies a pretty princess boutique… filled with all that a princess could ever want or even need.

We walked toward the back of the boutique and were promptly greeted by fairy godmothers in training. The cast members played their roles eloquently and to the tee. My girls were placed in salon chairs and the magic immediately began!

It wasn’t long before the words… “I’m thirsty!” crept from little Allison’s mouth. She’s normally a water fanatic… but the sight of her daddy’s coke must’ve peaked her interest in all things crisp and refreshing. I saw a bit of panic run over his face as he left in search of a drink. A few moment’s later he returned with a Sprite Zero! Thank you Disney for making products such as Sprite Zero available to us! Allison isn’t supposed to have juice or soda… but Sprite Zero has zero carbs and is perfectly o.k. for our little diabetic to have. What a treat!

Despite the fact that Allison absolutely hates to have her hair brushed… We had a fabulous time getting all sparkly. Rachel wore her crown to bed and wouldn’t let me wash her hair for nearly a week. Her crown finally broke and I convinced her that greasy hair isn’t very princess-y. Allison had glitter embedded in her scalp for weeks… I swear I just saw a glimmer of it even now. Looking back on the pictures… this was our most memorable Disneyland trip yet.

Again… Thank you so much Disneyland Resort Public Relations.
